Founders Beer Dinner

We had a great time at our beer dinner last night, which featured five courses from Chef Mickey paired with selections from Founders Brewing Company. Here are some quiet moments just before we welcomed our guests:

Mark your calendars for September 17th, when we’ll be throwing our next edition of Fan Fiction.

Our First Beer Dinner: Founders Brewing Company

Remember when we all cheered for beer? We’re still cheering—but in a quiet, refined, five-course-dinner sort of way.  Join us on Monday, August 27th, at 6:30pm, when Chef Mickey cooks up a dish to be perfectly paired with five choice brews from Founders Brewing.

We’re especially excited to be able to feature KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) with our final course. Named the #2 Beer in America by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2011, this limited release sold out within hours and four-packs were going for $60 on eBay! (All math enthusiasts will note that next week’s beer dinner, at $65 per person, is nearly the same cost. What a steal!)

And just for you, our faithful blog-reader: a sneak peek at the evening’s menu! (Click to enlarge.)

Join us Monday, August 27th at 6:30pm. Tickets are $65 per person, but seating is limited. Buy your tickets at the bar today!

The September 1878 issue of the London magazine Fun listed the recipe as follows: "A wine-glass with lemon juice fill, of sugar the same glass fill twice / Then rub them together until / The mixture looks smooth, soft, and nice. / Of rum then three wine glasses add, / And four of cold water please take. A Drink then you'll have that's not bad — / At least, so they say in Jamaica."

Fan Fiction: Dale DeGroff's Rainbow Room, 1998

Last time we celebrated Dr. Cocktail. This time we’re hailing the King: Dale DeGroff, aka King Cocktail. Join us for our next edition of Fan Fiction on Monday, August 13th, from 5pm-2am, as head bartender Danny Shapiro recreates DeGroff’s 1998 Rainbow Room menu.

While Carrie Bradshaw was tossing back cosmos and Jimmy Fallon was making his debut on Saturday Night Live, fifty-something stories above Manhattan Dale DeGroff was quietly beginning a cocktail revolution at Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room.
He wanted to know what drinks would have been served in the classic bars of New York, places that would have been visible from the perch of the Rainbow Room. So twelve years ago he started collecting bar books. Today he has 600 recipe compilations, monographs and memoirs in his collection. Via GQ.
Be sure to join us for Fan Fiction: Dale DeGroff's 1998 Rainbow Room on Monday, August 13th, 5pm-2am.

We all cheer: BEER!

Sixpoint Brewery takes over one of our tap towers.

We love creating boozy cocktails for our menu, but sometimes in the middle of a long, hot summer, we just want to kick back with a beer. So in order to accommodate whatever mood you’re in this month, we’re adding some delicious new cocktails to our menu next week and spending some extra time on the beer front in August.

Choices, choices: can or draft?

Join us on Wednesday evening when we host the Chicago release of Sixpoint Brewery’s newest year round release! Brownstone Ale is a very drinkable beer, with a sizable hop kick at the start and a malty brown ale finish. And if that’s not enough to tempt you, we’re incorporating your new favorite brown ale into a feisty cocktail and a delectable pork cheek sandwich.

Our resident beer guy, Kris Nagy.

Do we have your attention yet, beer folks? Because we’ve got another treat in store for you at the end of the month: we’re hosting our first beer dinner on Monday, August 27th! We’ll be pairing some of our favorite Founder’s brews with four courses courtesy of Chef Mickey. Stay tuned to our blog for info on guaranteeing your seat at the table.
